Workington Reds want to extend Ryan Bowman loan spell

Workington Reds boss Darren Edmondson is working hard to secure the services of powerful front man Ryan Bowman for another month.

The young striker’s stint at Borough Park is set to expire tomorrow and Edmondson was last night locked in discussions with his Carlisle United counterpart Greg Abbott about extending the deal.

Edmondson said: “I have been talking to Greg and I hope we can come to an agreement before the weekend.

“Ryan is a big, strong lad who hassles defenders and can score goals. He’s shown he is a battler during his month with us and I have been pleased with his performances.

“With us he is getting game time and he is learning a lot about first team football.

“He has had to deal with experienced defenders and he hasn’t looked out of place. I hope we can keep him because he gives us an extra option, either starting games or making an impact off the bench.”

Bowman fiercely volleyed his first goal for the club during the 1-0 win over Redditch and has looked lively when on the pitch.

Reds goal-shy strikers have netted just 25 times in their 28 league games and Edmondson is keen to keep Bowman to help increase that average.

He said: “The problem this season hasn’t been finishing chances because we have some good goal scorers at the club.“The problem has been the final pass to set up a chance. We have tried to put measures in place to combat that but we are struggling to find the final cross.“If we can keep Ryan then he will be the one to benefit when we get it right.”
