Whitehaven coach Stokes praises Kyle Amor

Leeds prop Kyle Amor should be back at Whitehaven this weekend after making a massive mark for the Rhinos’ Under-20s.
Amor has been a regular for Haven this term but missed Friday night’s Challenge Cup win over Leigh Miners Rangers as the Super League club had not wanted him to be cup-tied, in case he’s required by the Rhinos later in the tournament.
He went on to notch a hat-trick for Leeds Under-20s in the 34-12 win over Harlequins and hopes to eventually get his big break at Headingley.
Amor said: “Every day has been brilliant at Leeds and I’m learning every day. I have been playing with Whitehaven on a dual registration, and hopefully I can keep training hard and get a sniff at the first-team at Leeds.”
Haven boss Ged Stokes, who first spotted Amor’s potential to play prop after he played his junior career at centre and back-row, said there was pressure on the ex-Hensingham amateur virtually every week to be their best forward, due to his Rhinos links.
“That’s how it should be,” the coach added.
“His game has improved from our game against Keighley, for sure.
“Kyle is going to be targeted by other teams – it also happened last year – and has to play smart.”
Ged added: “He can’t afford to use himself as a battering ram and try to run through every defence in the division because some of them are very tough.”
Haven’s Challenge Cup trip to Blackpool has been pencilled in for Saturday, April 17, 2.30pm kick off.
And Stokes is looking for fans to turn out to help the team move in to the fifth round.
“The ground has no stands and it’s a bit like park football, so it lacks a little atmosphere if it hasn’t got a few people in,” he said. “I was a little disappointed when I first heard we had an away draw.
“But if we had got a Super League club it would have been virtually impossible to go through.
“This way we get a chance though we need a really positive mental attitude going in as these games can sometimes be banana skins.”
