Soft goals cost us against Millwall, claims Carlisle Utd boss

Greg Abbott insisted that “soft” goals were Carlisle United’s undoing against promotion-chasing Millwall last night.

The Blues boss was upset at the manner of Steve Morison’s strikes which killed off the Cumbrians in the Lions’ 3-1win.

Morison scored in the 12th and 78th minutes in front of 3,853 fans at Brunton Park.

Skipper Danny Livesey claimed a late consolation before Danny Schofield wrapped up Millwall’s win deep into injury-time.

United remained 12th in League One after the setback against the visitors, who moved up to fifth.

“We gave away two soft goals,” said Abbott. “Our play from box to box was ok and we tried to pass the ball as best we could, but we gave two bad goals away.”

Abbott said Lions keeper David Forde should have been dismissed for raising his hand to Blues sub Richard Offiong as the pair clashed after Livesey’s goal.

But the United manager conceded that Kenny Jackett’s promotion-chasing side were a difficult proposition for his team.

“Millwall are a tough team,” he said. “They are not where they are by playing nice football. They are a hard-working outfit and have two strikers with power and pace.”
