Peter Barton is founder and managing director of Ulverston LED lighting firm Forge Europa. He set the company up in 1993 and has led its growth from a one-man-band into an internationally recognised company at the forefront of the low energy solid state lighting sector.
Mr Barton’s investment in research and development, together with his priority to build and develop the company’s staff has seen it achieve turnover growth of 40 per cent in 2008 and 78 per cent in the last two years.
The company achieved a turnover of £3.6m in the last financial year and is on track to increase that further in 2009, despite the recession.
The business has created high quality jobs.
Mr Barton’s emphasis on customer service is borne out by the fact that 90 per cent of Forge Europas top customers in 2005, 2006 and 2007 are still customers.
Forge Europa says of Mr Barton: “His inspirational business leadership has been very evident.
“He established the company’s unique blend of engineering disciplines, combined with a sales team that accurately assesses and interprets customer needs with value engineered solutions, meaning Forge Europa is now uniquely placed in the UK to take advantage of the emerging technology.”
