Just let police do their job

The bewildering news that the security of our country seems on the surface to be the least of this coalition Government’s priority is deeply worrying.

Support at hand for ME

Amy's article on her battle with ME (News & Star, August 21) illustrates how those people with the illness less severely still have a lot to be thankful for, despite the difficulties they face individually in managing their life.

Tony Blair has no place in history

Tony Blair really should stop talking because every time he opens his mouth he reveals what a waste of suit he really was.

Bird killers must be punished

I have always been in favour of capital and corporal punishment and this barbaric act of the slaughter of hens and geese in an allotment (News & Star, September 1) by low-life scum should get the latter if caught – which is highly unlikely.

We’ll pay for food waste

Regarding the article by Anne Pickles on Leftovers fit for a Queen (News & Star, August 28), I would like to say that everyone is entitled to their opinions, but when it comes to an empty stomach everyone feels hunger.

Put councillor silence under scrutiny

In answer to a senior Copeland councillor (Coun Moore) who has called for an inquiry by the scrutiny committee into the under-writing of £125 for Whitehaven Rugby League Club, why was he silent on the £10,000 spent on Blackberry phones for himself and other councillors?

Last to finish but so proud

I was the last one to finish in the Carlisle 10k run in a time of two hours and 15 minutes but this was academic as my aim was to complete the race.

Just tell us where to catch the bus

Well done Cumbria County Council, you have managed to save money on some of your subsidised bus routes, the 71 route Silloth/Anthorn to Carlisle being one of these.

Workers have few rights

I'm a construction worker living and working in Carlisle and I am growing more and more concerned about the lack of long term employment in the area, although I dare say this problem is not limited to this area or industry.

No logic in land of astrology

With reference to Rosalind Gibb’s three interviewees on astrology (News & Star, August 24); it’s not the fact that they make a few bucks peddling their nonsense that annoys me.
